It should be noted that whereas each of the products examined include language referencing use in applications where DEXRON®-III/MERCON® fluids are recommended, with the exception of the label on one brand tested (Murphy USA), all others include language advising consumers of the its limited use (i.e. DEXRON®-III/MERCON® fluids are not recommended for use in General Motors vehicles built after model year 2005 and Ford vehicles after model year 2006; DEXRON®-III/MERCON® fluids are not recommended for use in transmissions specifying Ford Type F, MERCON® V, MERCON® SP, and GM DEXRON® – VI ATF).
Consumers should always consult the owner’s manual to determine the type of ATF specified for their vehicle.
