 The Petroleum Quality Institute of America recently shopped a convenience store in Ohio and found a brand on the shelves that consumers are advised not to buy. The product is labeled as “Petrola” and the samples tested include: Use of these products in virtually any automobile currently on the road will likely cause harm to the engine or the transmission. Further, if damage is done to a vehicle as a result of using these products, a consumer could have a tough row to hoe should they decide to seek recompense from the manufacturer or distributor of the product. This is because the labels on the products do not comply with the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA), or the Uniform Packaging and Labeling Regulations, each of which require the product labels include a declaration of responsibility (name and address of manufacturer, packer, or distributor) of the product. |

Although PQIA will bring this brand to the attention of the Ohio Department of Agriculture Weights & Measures, until they take action, consumers should be aware that these products are on the shelves and to avoid them.
