The results are in on four samples of 5W-20 motor oils. Although the results of the tests conducted on the samples meet the SAE J300 specifications for the SAE Viscosity Grade listed on the product label, and are consistent with the listed API Service Categories, one of the brands (Zecol-MAX) got our attention. This is because while the front label on the sample tested identifies the product as a “Synthetic SAE 5W-20 Motor Oil,” the back label identifies it as a “Semi-Synthetic SAE 5W-20 Motor Oil.” Once again, consumers are advised to read the labels when buying motor oils.
